“Morality is temporary, wisdom is permanent” -Hunter S. Thompson
The Rum Diary written by Hunter S. Thompson is currently in production for the big screen, starring Johnny Depp and directed by Bruce Robinson. Thompson died by his own means in February 2005 and this gave rise to the film Gonzo: the Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson directed by Alex Gibny. He was loved by many for his journalism and novels which include Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hell’s Angels and Generation of Swine.
He forged the way for “gonzo journalism” which gave voice to the writer as a crucial role in a story. To him, fiction was based on reality. He was very much connected with American society and politics, a keen observer and an inspired critic.
The Rum Diary was only published in 1998, though it was written in 1959. It was his first novel.
