The solution is not a bigger closet for what you won’t wear. The solution is Buffalo Exchange.
From the home of H&M and Ikea arrives the growing trend. Look out! Buffalo Exchange allows you to trade in clothes for store credit on items that have also been traded in by people like yourself. You can also cash in for 30 percent or so, but store credit gains you the most out of what you give. The store won’t take anything however, only clothing and accessories that are up to date and look good as new. Thus, you can expect to find cheaper prices on designer clothing and in general, a wardrobe that won’t cost you too much. Plus, you will be saving the world one item at a time by recycling! Give those child laborers a rest- shop at Buffalo Exchange.
They also host charity events in respect to the environment, such as “Coats for Cubs” which will last until April 22nd, Earth Day. If you have real furs to get rid of, you can bring them to your local Buffalo Exchange and tell them it’s for Coats for Cubs. The furs will go to The Humane Society of the US, which will use them as bedding for injured and orphaned wildlife.
The Buffalo Exchange is located throughout the US. It was started in Arizona, and has spread to many locations on the west coast especially in California, a few are scattered in the Midwest, and there are a couple stores in New York. The creators of the store, Kerstin and Spencer Block, opened their first store in 1974 giving it the name Buffalo for an “American” feel. Yet the store’s values are anything but American: we gotta love the Swedes. People like Kerstin show us that immigration is beneficial to the US. We could learn a lot from them: recycling, local trading, and giving are ideas people are now embracing.
